There is a moment on every trip — usually two or three days in — when it happens. Maybe it's a grandmother pressing your hands between hers after prayer. Maybe it's a room full of children singing a song you recognize, in a language you don't. Whatever form it takes, the moment says the same thing: this is real, and now it's yours too.
A PEMUSA vision trip is not a vacation, and it's not a photo op. It's a week or two inside the story you've been giving to. You'll pray with pastors who planted churches in places that had never heard the name of Jesus. You'll eat meals cooked by widows who found family again. You'll see, line by line, what your generosity actually builds.
Everyone who travels with us says some version of the same sentence on the flight home: “Now I understand.” We'd love for you to say it too.

What your days will look like
Mornings
Worship that needs no translation
Most mornings begin with the church — sometimes a congregation of hundreds under a rented canopy, sometimes twelve believers in a living room where the singing shakes the walls. The songs are in Telugu. You won't understand a word, and it won't matter. By the second chorus you'll realize you're not visiting somebody else's faith; you're standing inside your own, wearing different clothes.
Afternoons
The children know exactly who you are
Afternoons usually belong to the children — the ones your giving houses, feeds, and sends to school. They will sing for you, show off their English, and beat you badly at cricket. Somewhere between handing out school supplies and being taught a Telugu tongue-twister, sponsorship stops being a line item and becomes a name and a face you will never forget.
Evenings
Going where the need lives
As the heat breaks, the team goes out — to a widow's home with rice and prayer, to a village feeding program, to a family that asked the pastor to come. You'll serve with your hands, whatever your hands can do: ladling meals, praying, taking photographs, hauling supplies. No skill is wasted here, and no one stands on the sidelines for long.
A Typical Trip
The rhythm of two weeks in India
Every trip is shaped around what's happening on the field, but most follow a rhythm like this.
Days 1–2
Travel and landing
Fly into South India, meet the team, sleep off the jet lag, and get your bearings. You'll be hosted and driven by people we've trusted for years.
Days 3–8
Into the villages
The heart of the trip — church services, children's homes, pastor gatherings, and home visits, a different community almost every day.
Days 9–11
Serve and celebrate
Hands-on ministry days, and often something special: a church dedication, an outreach event, a festival of worship with local believers.
Days 12–14
Debrief and return
Time to process what you've seen, pray about what comes next, and fly home — changed, and probably already planning your return.

The Practical Part
What you'll need
- Passport
- Valid at least six months beyond your travel dates. If you don't have one yet, apply at least two to three months before the trip.
- Visa
- U.S. citizens need an Indian e-Visa. The online application is straightforward, and we walk every traveler through it step by step.
- Health
- No vaccinations are formally required, but talk with your doctor or a travel clinic about what they recommend for South Asia.
- Cost
- Most trips run 10–14 days, and total cost varies with airfare and season. Contact us for a current estimate — and ask about support letters; many travelers fundraise most of their trip.
- Food & lodging
- Clean, comfortable guest accommodations and generous home-cooked meals. If you can handle a little spice, you will eat very, very well.
Good Questions
Before you pack
Do I need ministry experience?
No. You need a willing heart and a valid passport. The local team leads the ministry — you come alongside them, and they are very good at finding the place where you fit.
Is it safe?
You travel with PEMUSA leadership and long-trusted local hosts who know the regions, the languages, and the customs. We don't take visitors anywhere we wouldn't take our own families.
Can my family or my church group come?
Yes — couples, families, and small groups have all traveled with us. Tell us who's coming and we'll shape the trip around the group.
What if I can't afford it?
Don't rule yourself out. Between support letters, church sponsorship, and planning ahead for airfare, most travelers raise the majority of their costs. We'll help you build a plan.
