Widow Ministry
Not forgotten. Not alone.
When a husband dies in an Indian village, the loss can reach far beyond grief. Income, housing, and standing in the community can all disappear. We walk beside widows with a home, help to earn a living, and a place to belong, and we introduce them to the God who promises to be their defender.
“For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel.”
The Need
Widowhood can take everything at once
In many villages, the death of a husband is followed by a second loss. The household income stops. Relatives may lay claim to the house or the land. Some widows are treated as a burden, and some are left out of family gatherings and celebrations. Many are older, in poor health, and still supporting children or grandchildren.
God has never treated this as a side issue. James calls looking after widows in their distress the heart of true religion. The first church in Jerusalem appointed leaders for the specific purpose of making sure widows were fed every day (Acts 6:1-3). Our partners in India take that as their job description.
That is why our care does not stop at a bag of rice, though we give that too. A widow needs shelter, steady income, and a community that welcomes her back. Most of all, she needs to hear that she is seen and loved by God.
Two Ways We Serve
Care at the home, and care in her own village
No two widows need exactly the same help, so we serve in two ways.
The Widow Care Home
For widows who have nowhere else to turn, a safe place to live among people who care.

Ruth's Road
What Ruth needed is what we try to give
Ruth was a widow in a strange country, with no income and no home. Her story shows what restoration looks like, one step at a time. We use it as our map.
Stop 1
A place to land
Ruth and Naomi arrived in Bethlehem with nothing. Before anything else, a widow needs a roof. We build houses and provide a home for widows who have none.
“So they two went until they came to Bethlehem.” Ruth 1:19
Stop 2
Bread on the table
Boaz told Ruth to eat with his workers at mealtime and made sure she had more than enough. We help with food and regular living costs, so a widow is not choosing between medicine and a meal.
“At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread.” Ruth 2:14
Stop 3
Honest work
Ruth did not ask for a handout. She asked to work in the field. Dignity comes from being able to provide, so we help widows find steady work that fits their strength and their village.
“Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn.” Ruth 2:2
Stop 4
A community that welcomes her
When Ruth settled in Bethlehem, the whole town rejoiced with her. We work alongside local churches and neighbors so a widow is welcomed back into village life, with people to lean on and people who lean on her.
“Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman.” Ruth 4:14
Stop 5
A God of her own
The Gospel is not the last step on this road. It is shared from the first visit and lived out at every stop, because a widow's deepest need is the same as anyone's: to know Jesus.
“Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.” Ruth 1:16
Ruth's story does not end in the field
A widow from Moab, with nothing, became the great-grandmother of King David and is named in the family line of Jesus (Matthew 1:5). God has never seen a widow as an afterthought. We are honored to help remind her of that.
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
